The soccer team started with the help of Lebo’s Backpackers in Soweto, who support social initiatives. The program 3 OP REIS filmed the team - with the resulting broadcast in the Netherlands in March 2010.
The Soweto Backpackers FC is the first sponsored team based in Joburg.

In 2010 South Africa becomes the first African host of the FIFA World Cup football. Ironically there where the most loyal supporters live - in the townships - the facilities are the worst.
